R.I.P....Crazy Ray.....

Sad news for Cowboys fans

The unofficial mascot of the Dallas Cowboys for decades, Crazy Ray, has died. A lot of us old-timers grew up with Crazy Ray - his battles on the sideline with the Redskins' mascots were always a good time. It's almost like a part of my childhood has died.

Before there was Rowdy or even the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, there was Crazy Ray.

Seen for more than four decades on the sidelines of Texas Stadium, the original mascot of the Dallas Cowboys died this morning, officials said. He was 70.

His real name was Wilford Jones and as "Crazy Ray," he pumped up fans and even simulated assaults on other teams' mascots.

For years, I thought Crazy Ray was a part of the Cowboys organization, but he wasn't. He was just a fan who took his love of the Cowboys to another level, and earned himself a place in the Dallas Cowboys legacy. He won't be forgotten.

R.I.P.
